Dugout Wisdom: The Ten Principles of Championship Teams
Published in Paperback by Coaches Choice (April, 2003)
Authors: Jim Murphy and Davey Johnson
Average review score:

Must have!
This book is a must have for coaches and players alike. I own and run Centerfield Baseball Academy and this book is like having the best coaches in the country in my place 24-7!. If you are a coach it is amazing to have such an organized blue print for success at your fingertips. As a player who got to the professional leval I could have been twice the player and teammate had I read Dugout Wisdom. A young player who reads this book will get tips to exponentially improve his game and, what's more important, he will relate to his coach and team in a way he never has before. This is worth every penny. ...

Wisdom For All
I bought Jim Murphy's DUGOUT WISDOM because I wanted to learn about managing a winning business team. I don't confess to know a lot about baseball but after reading a few pages of DUGOUT WISDOM, I realized that this is not just a book for baseball coaches and fans. It's a book for anyone wanting to be a champion, wanting to be the best that they can be in all that they do whether it be in sports, business, personal life, anything. DUGOUT WISDOM is very practical.

I recommend DUGOUT WISDOM for anyone who wants to gain wisdom and be motivated, challenged, and inspired!

Dugout Wisdom transcends sports to the business world.
The amount of quality managers and coaches he interviewed is outstanding, and putting it all together with the ten principles really clarified for me what the top managers do. As a business professional I feel I can transfer much of these principles into my life, because we're all dealing with people, whether it's sports or business. I really liked the chapter on Forming a Covenant, and having a spiritual base, which is really inner strength. I was especially intrigued to find out what Dusty Baker had to say, as I feel he's one of the best at dealing with people and forming a winning team from different personalities. Highly recommended.

First Aid for the Obstetrics & Gynecology Clerkship
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/Appleton & Lange (15 October, 2001)
Authors: Nicole C. Johnson, Robert L. Feig, and Mathew S. Kaufman
Average review score:

Excellent book...
If you don't want to plow through 600+ pages of Beckmann, or some other text (i.e. you aren't aiming to specialize in OB/Gyn), you'll love this book. Information is well organized and easy to get through if you enjoy the First Aid format. I never liked the texts...I loved the BRS outline style and First Aid books. I haven't taken the shelf exam yet, but as for my last 2 months on the wards, this book has been a great resource.

Excellent Presentation
The authors have done an outstanding job. This book manages to simplify what is normally complex. A great tool for students.

Very Helpful and Informative
I found this book extrememly helpful and informative. All of the information was presented in a logical and easy to follow manner.

Fly-Fishing in Southern New Mexico (Coyote Books (Albuquerque, N.M.).)
Published in Paperback by University of New Mexico Press (October, 1998)
Authors: Rex Johnson Jr., Ron Smorynski, and Ronald Smorynski
Average review score:

A hidden world in the Gila
This book is simply the best available for southern New Mexico, and one of the bext of its type. Very comprehensive. It's clear that the author has actually been to and caught fish at the many remote spots he describes, over a period of many years. If you are even thinking of visiting the remote mountains of southern New Mexico, this is for your bookshelf

A great book for a beautiful area.
I have been a fly fisherman from time to time over the last ten years or so, and I lived in the Southwest from 1977 until 1998. My family returned to the area for a vacation and re-visited the Gila National Forest last summer, equipped with a lot of fishing gear and Rex's book. FFSNM seemed to bring the Gila's trout streams to life. This book is a kind of "sleeper'. Not many people have read it, but it's a good example of quality outdoing quantity. A lot of really good things in this world, like this book, remain overlooked, but that's probably fortunate in this case, because, like Rex Johnson, Jr., I liked having the Gila all to myself.

Extremely informative, and a good read.
This is a great book. It's as much a piece of literature as a book about fishing..

From Hell to Jackson Hole: A Poetic History of the American West
Published in Paperback by Bridge House Books (October, 2001)
Author: Michael L. Johnson
Average review score:

A memorable book of original poems
From Hell To Jackson Hole: A Poetic History Of The American West is a memorable book of original poems cherishing the history and spirit of the American West. Color photographs of artworks celebrating the Old West are occasionally interspersed among the moving, free-verse narratives that give life and memory to an era. Adah Isaacs Menken: Toast of San Francisco, she wowed the West/playing Mazeppa, the Cossack prince lashed/birthday naked to a wild stallion's back/in punishment for some illicit love./She filled the stage with frenzies of the flesh.//Many men damned her; most fell at her feet/and gave her gold or shares of mining stock.//Once, in Virginia City, Mark Twain came/to call at her hotel. She sipped champagne/and fed her lap dog brandied sugar cubes./He spoke in riddles of her pretty hands.

Ideal Christmas Gift for That Western Fan in Your Life
This is the book that John Mark Eberhart in his Kansas City Star review calls "one of the most illuminating histories of the American West you'll ever read" and one in which Michael L. Johnson "has taken what many consider to be a humble subgenre of American verse--so-called 'cowboy poetry'--and turned it into literature of the highest order." He's right as Roy Rogers riding on the white-hat side of law and order!

A beautiful book of poetry.
I keep this book out where I can get at it during the day so I can read a page here and there. It's filled with poems both long and short (e.g. Haiku).

The most treasured thing about this book is the appendix which lists sources. I can thus read further about the intriguing characters which are the subjects of the poems.

Gay Spirituality : The Role of Gay Identity in the Transformation of Human Consciousness
Published in Paperback by Alyson Pubns (July, 2000)
Authors: Edwin Clark Johnson and Toby Johnson
Average review score:

This book could be a godsend for gay and bi males
The road called "coming out" can sometimes be a long and painful road for gay and bi men coming from a strongly intolerant background. Somehow, each one of us needs to discover the timeless and essential beauty of love between human beings.

Some men take the path of unbelief, and find that it works for them. Some other men find this path impossible, or inconceivable, and Toby Johnson has written this book for them. As many readers have already said, it can be critically helpful at a crucial point in life.

Highly recommended.

give me more like this one please!
With religious beliefs and homosexuality tendencies being at the forefront of all my waking hours, I found this book quick, interesting and wonderfully insightful. -> Do yourself a favor and give it a read!!!

Provocative and insightful
Homosexuality is objectively disordered, sinful, immoral. Such are the positions still held by the Roman Catholic church and many protestant Christian denominations. Having grown up with this kind of outright moral condemnation, many gay men go on to reject organized religion, and there's nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately, many throw the baby out with the bathwater, and ban not only religion, but spirituality from their lifes, leaving them spiritually empty and longing for that missing piece to the puzzle of happiness.

This book can guide you to that piece. It shows that being gay is a spiritual asset, not a liability. Where some look down on same-sex love as defective, because it does not express the male-female duality, Johnson turns it around and proudly declares that to be the precise reason why same-sex love is spiritually superior. It transcends the duality.

Johnson's vision of a life-affirming, sex-positive spirituality of love, cooperation, mutual respect and acceptance is in sync with modern scientific knowledge, and does not ask the reader to suspend logic or critical thinking. Gay christians who are struggling with their sexual orientation will especially appreciate Johnson's convincing refutation of common "biblical" anti-gay arguments.

A powerful book for personal change, a wonderful antidote to the negativity of the Religious Right, and a great gift to a gay friend who is unhappy with his life or suffering from low self-esteem.

Healthspan : Claim Your Birthright to Holistic Health and Happiness from Here to 100

Healthspan: Birthright to Holistic Health
Healthspan is not a book in the traditional sense. It is an excellent educational document that will motivate the reader to study and reread. The work and education of Dr. Woodard was in a generation in which the words 'Holistic health' would have brought professional rebuke. Dr. Woodard dared to do the unheard of by keeping an open ear to his patients and studying under far east healers where he found time honored practices lost to the western world. He incorporated this vast knowledge into his psychiatric medical practice. As a purchaser of this book you will be acquiring holistic healing information that goes beyond untested theory.

Willard Foster Director of Counseling Services, Retired Kansas State Department of Education

Must read and apply
This powerful book is a must read and must apply! It's jam packed with interesting tips and unique and effective techniques. Parasites had put me at death's door when I first began using the valuable and wise information in this book. Now, I have incorporated so many of these concepts and actions into my daily life that it has completely changed so much for the better. The best part is, I've enjoyed every moment.

Healthspan, a great book
This book deserves to be on the N.Y. Times bestseller list along with the books of Wayne Dyer and Deepak Chopra. It presents a philosophy of healing which is both uncommon and comprehensive. Read this book before the AMA figures out a way to have it banned. It has the potential to revolutionize the practice of medicine.Humor is mixed in a refreshing way with a depth of knowledge and insight Dr. Woodard has gained from 40 years of medical practice devoted to healing, not just doctoring. If you are dissatisfied with your experience with the medical establishment, read this book.

Henry Builds a Cabin
Published in Library Binding by Houghton Mifflin Co (26 February, 2002)
Author: D.B. Johnson
Average review score:

Perfect Baby Shower Gift!!
We borrowed this book from the library and I must buy a copy for my 3yr old. He loves it. The illustrations are unique and so pleasing to the eye. They are a little abstract but not too much so you can't see what is being conveyed.

Henry builds a cabin but his friends doesn't think it's big enough. Henry says it's big enough for all kinds of things. In the end, you find out what the cabin is perfect for.

Delightful read and a sure bet for a Baby Shower Gift!

A book for all ages
I'm 12 but I really like this picture book. I learned a lot about what Henry Thoreau was trying to do when he built a cabin by Walden Pond, and it was fun learning it through this book. The illustrations are funny and I like how Henry solves his problems. I also like Henry Hikes to Fitchburg, which is even funnier because Henry makes his friend learn a lesson in a funny way. I also recommend another great book about Henrey Thoreau, that especially girls of all ages will like, Louisa May and Mr. Thoreau's Flute. It talks about how Henrey Thoreau helped Louisa May Alcott learn to like the outdoors and learn to like writing. Henry's funny in that book too so I think readers will like it too.

The Perfect Home.....
Henry, a sturdy looking bear wearing a large hat and workclothes, is building a cabin in the woods. He borrows an ax and cuts down twelve trees for framing, buys an old shed, takes it apart and uses the wood for the walls and floor. He builds a front door, finds two used windows and some old shingles for the roof. As he's building, friends stop by to look at the cabin and check on his progress. Emerson comments that it seems too small to eat in. "It's bigger than it looks," replies Henry and shows him his garden out back. "When it's finished, this will be my dining room." Friend, Alcott thinks the cabin will be too dark to read in, but Henry shows him a sunny spot right outside. "This will be my library." And when Miss Lydia shows concern that there won't be room for dancing, Henry shows her the pathway down to the pond, his grand stairway to the ballroom. On July 4th, Henry's cabin is finished and he moves in. He eats in the "dining room", reads in the "library" and dances in his "ballroom". When it begins to rain, he hurries back to his cabin, where in a very wise and amusing way he shows us that his new home is just perfect..... D.B. Johnson is back with a marvelous sequel to his award winning first picture book, Henry Hikes To Fitchburg, based on the life of Henry David Thoreau. His simple and inspiring text is sure to be a springboard to interesting and thoughtful discussions. What does a home really need, and how big does it have to be? Mr Johnson's creative and expressive, light-filled illustrations enhance the story beautifully, and capture the imagination. With an author's note at the end "About Henry's Cabin", to help fill in the details of how and why Thoreau built his cabin, its cost, and his two years living at Waldens Pond, Henry Builds A Cabin is an engaging and unique little treasure youngsters 4-8 shouldn't miss. "Most men appear never to have considered what a house is, and are actually though needlessly poor all their lives because they think they must have such a one as their neighbors have."
